Over 45,000 athletes participate in 105-day extravaganza across 29 stadiums; Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini inaugurates grand finale, hails initiative as a mass movement against drugs and for fitness.

Fatehabad, December 15, 2025 – The Sansad Khel Mahotsav-2025, organised under the leadership of Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala in the Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency, scripted a new chapter in grassroots sports promotion, concluding with a grand finale that drew widespread acclaim for fostering youth engagement and combating drug abuse through athletics.

Spanning 105 days, the event saw participation from more than 45,000 athletes, with approximately 1,500 matches held across nine assembly segments. It featured disciplines including kabaddi, football, hockey, kho-kho, handball, athletics (100m and 400m races), javelin throw, shot put, long jump, smashing and shooting volleyball, and boxing in five weight categories.

The grand finale at MM College in Fatehabad was inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who kicked off the kabaddi final between teams from Fatehabad and Sirsa assembly segments. Praising the scale and organisation, the CM lauded MP Barala and his team, describing the Mahotsav as a “comprehensive health movement” that builds physical strength, mental resilience, discipline, and positive thinking among youth.

CM Saini emphasised sports’ pivotal role in steering youngsters away from drugs, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making sports a mass movement. He noted that the event has propelled Sirsa constituency into the top-10 nationwide for participation in Sansad Khel Mahotsav.

The festival kicked off on September 21 at Damkaura Stadium in Tohana, inaugurated by BJP state in-charge Satish Punia. Over the months, it reached every village in the constituency, with 3,604 athletes qualifying for the Lok Sabha-level finale.

Several Haryana cabinet ministers and the Deputy Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha graced various stages. At the finale, MP Barala invited Arjuna and Dronacharya awardees from Haryana, who shared their journeys of struggle and success, inspiring young participants.

The events were hosted across 29 stadiums, many of which will see infrastructure upgrades funded by crores from Barala’s MP LAD funds, including sports equipment, facilities for players, separate toilets for girls, and beautification.

In his closing remarks, Barala stressed that the Mahotsav’s goal extends beyond competition to nurturing better citizens through sports. He assured continued support—training, resources, and opportunities—for emerging talents in the Sirsa region.

This initiative underscores a nationwide push to unearth rural sporting talent and promote fitness as a societal priority.
