BJP Has Destroyed Haryana’s Law and Order, Economy: Hooda
Former CM alleges state government focuses on event management while organized crime surges and debt balloons to over Rs 5 lakh crore
Kurukshetra, January 19, 2026 – Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda launched a scathing attack on the BJP government in Haryana, accusing it of completely undermining the state’s law and order situation and crippling its economy through what he described as mere “event management” politics.
Addressing a Congress training camp in Kurukshetra on Monday, the former Chief Minister painted a grim picture of the state’s current affairs, claiming that organized crime has reached unprecedented levels with over 80 criminal gangs operating fearlessly across Haryana.
“Criminals are committing crimes fearlessly and even openly taking responsibility for them,” Hooda stated, citing the Central Government’s Social Progress Index which ranks Haryana as the most unsafe state in the country.
The senior Congress leader also highlighted the state’s deteriorating fiscal health, noting that Haryana’s total debt has exploded from Rs 60,000 crore accumulated between 1966 and 2014 to over Rs 5 lakh crore currently. This financial burden has pushed the state to 14th position out of 18 states in NITI Aayog’s Fiscal Health Index.
According to Hooda, the economic crisis has led to the closure or relocation of 1,446 factories since 2018-19, resulting in stagnant job creation and soaring unemployment rates.
The press conference, attended by State President Rao Narendra Singh, former minister Ashok Arora, and several MLAs, was held on the second day of the Congress training camp where newly elected District Presidents were being oriented.
In his address to party functionaries, Hooda emphasized the historical significance of the Congress party, invoking the legacy of freedom fighters and leaders like Dr. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru. He reminded the gathering that Congress governments in Haryana, from Bhagwat Dayal Sharma to successive administrations, had made significant contributions to the state’s development.
Reflecting on his own tenure as Chief Minister, Hooda claimed his government had made Haryana the top-ranking state nationally across multiple development parameters including per capita income, investment, job creation, and law and order.
The Opposition leader’s remarks underscore the growing political confrontation in Haryana as Congress seeks to challenge the BJP’s governance record ahead of future electoral battles.
