BJP Appoints Bihar Minister Nitin Nabin as National Working President
Bihar leader’s elevation signals generational shift and focus on organisational strength ahead of key challenges
New Delhi, December 14, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday appointed senior leader and Bihar cabinet minister Nitin Nabin as its National Working President, marking a significant organisational reshuffle in the world’s largest political party.
The decision, approved by the BJP’s Parliamentary Board and effective immediately, positions Nabin as the likely successor to incumbent party president JP Nadda, whose term has seen multiple extensions since 2020.
A five-time MLA from Patna’s Bankipur constituency, Nitin Nabin currently serves as the Public Works Department (PWD) and Road Construction minister in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government. At around 45 years old, he is one of the youngest leaders to hold such a high national post in the BJP.
Nabin’s political journey began in student politics with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the RSS-affiliated student wing. The son of late veteran BJP leader Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, he entered electoral politics after his father’s demise, winning a by-election in 2006 and retaining the urban Bankipur seat in subsequent polls, including a strong victory in the recent 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
He has held key organisational roles, including state president of the BJP Yuva Morcha, national general secretary, and in-charge for states like Sikkim and Chhattisgarh. Known for his grassroots connect, booth-level mobilisation, and alliance management skills – particularly in maintaining ties with JD(U) in Bihar – Nabin belongs to the influential Kayastha community and brings a blend of administrative experience and ideological commitment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on X, describing him as a “young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience” who has “diligently worked to fulfil people’s aspirations.” Modi expressed confidence that Nabin’s “energy and dedication will strengthen our Party in the times to come.”
Outgoing president JP Nadda also hailed the appointment, calling Nabin a “dynamic leader from the sacred land of Bihar” and predicting new benchmarks in nation-building under his leadership.
The move is seen as a generational transition in the BJP, injecting youth and fresh energy into the top echelons while rewarding a disciplined karyakarta (worker) with proven electoral and organisational credentials. It comes amid preparations for internal party elections and signals a renewed push to bolster the BJP’s presence in eastern India, particularly in Bihar, ahead of future political battles.
Analysts view Nabin’s rise as a strategic choice to balance regional representation, caste dynamics, and administrative prowess, further consolidating the party’s structure under Modi’s guidance.
