Delhi Capitals Crush Mumbai Indians by 6 Wickets as Sameer Rizvi Blazes 90 off 51
Rizvi’s second consecutive IPL fifty powers DC to their second straight win; stand-in skipper Surya shines in a losing cause
Delhi Capitals made it two wins from two at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, chasing down Mumbai Indians’ total of 162 with 11 balls to spare in IPL 2026’s Match 8.
Delhi won the toss and opted to bowl, and their bowlers kept Mumbai in check through the middle overs. Stand-in Mumbai captain Suryakumar Yadav — filling in for an unfit Hardik Pandya — top-scored with a brisk 51 off 36 balls, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Rohit Sharma contributed 35, Naman Dhir added 28, and Mitchell Santner finished unbeaten on 18 as Mumbai posted 162 for 6 in their 20 overs. Mukesh Kumar was the pick of Delhi’s bowlers with 2 wickets, while Akshar Patel, Lungi Ngidi, Vipraj Nigam and T Natarajan chipped in with one each.
Rizvi Steals the Show
The chase was built around a stunning innings from impact player Sameer Rizvi, who walked in at number four and turned the match decisively in Delhi’s favour. The young batter smashed 90 off just 51 balls, studded with 7 fours and 7 sixes, registering his third IPL fifty and second in as many matches this season. He put on a match-winning 78-run partnership for the fifth wicket with David Miller before being dismissed by Corbin Bosch — caught by Tilak Varma — with victory in sight.
Before Rizvi took centre stage, Pathum Nissanka had laid a solid foundation with 44 off 30 balls before falling to Santner. KL Rahul was dismissed cheaply in the very first over by Deepak Chahar, and Nitish Rana was run out by a Jasprit Bumrah direct hit without scoring. But Rizvi’s brilliance rendered those early stumbles irrelevant. Miller finished unbeaten on 21, sealing the win with a boundary in the 18th over.
For Mumbai, Chahar, Bosch and Santner took a wicket each, while Bumrah’s run-out of Rana was the other dismissal.
Pandya’s Absence a Concern
Mumbai will be sweating over the fitness of their regular skipper Hardik Pandya, who sat out the match. Suryakumar confirmed at the toss that Pandya was not fully fit, though no further details were provided.
Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, continue their impressive start to the season and will take plenty of confidence from Rizvi’s explosive form going into their next fixture.
