Mouni Roy Alleges Harassment by Elderly Men at Karnal Wedding Event
Bollywood actor describes incident as ‘humiliating and traumatising’ in detailed Instagram post; Karnal police yet to receive formal complaint
KARNAL/NEW DELHI — Popular Bollywood actor Mouni Roy has publicly accused several male attendees, including elderly men, of harassing her during a recent performance at a private wedding function in Karnal, Haryana. The actress shared her account of the incident through a series of Instagram Stories on Saturday, calling the experience both humiliating and traumatic.
According to Roy’s detailed social media post, the alleged harassment began as she walked toward the stage to perform. The actress, known for her roles in television series “Naagin” and films such as “Gold” and “Brahmāstra,” claimed that several male family members placed their hands on her waist under the pretext of taking photographs. When she politely asked them to stop, the situation reportedly worsened rather than improved.
The actor expressed particular disgust at the behavior of what she described as two elderly men. Roy alleged that the inappropriate conduct continued during her stage performance, with some attendees making lewd comments, obscene gestures, and attempting to record her from inappropriate angles. The actress stated that two men in the front row engaged in name-calling and unwelcome actions despite her objections.
Roy briefly paused her performance and considered leaving the venue entirely but ultimately chose to complete the show before departing. According to her account, neither event organizers nor other attendees intervened during the incidents.
In her Instagram post, Roy highlighted broader concerns about performer safety. She questioned what harassment newer artists must endure if someone with her level of recognition experiences such treatment. The actress emphasized that performers attend such events to contribute to celebrations and earn an honest living through their craft, not to be subjected to harassment.
A video that has since gone viral on social media shows Roy displaying her middle finger on stage before leaving the venue, a gesture that many fans have praised as a justified response to the alleged mistreatment. Supporters have been trending messages of solidarity with the actress across various platforms.
Roy also stated that she had approached Karnal Police regarding the matter. However, Inspector Manoj Kumar, SHO of Sector 32/33 police post, confirmed that authorities had not yet received any formal complaint in connection with the incident as of Saturday evening.
The actress concluded her social media statement by calling for authorities to take action against such behavior and ensure accountability for harassment at public events.
Roy is currently working on several upcoming projects, including the Telugu film “Vishwambhara” with Chiranjeech and “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai” featuring Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde.
