PM Modi to Visit Haryana on Oct 17 for Nayab Saini Govt’s First Anniversary
Sonipat Event to Feature Key Inaugurations; CM Saini Advances Japan Trip to Prep for PM’s Arrival Amid Buzz Over Ladli Laxmi Payout
Chandigarh, Oct 4, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Haryana on October 17 to mark the first anniversary of the Nayab Singh Saini-led government, with a grand event planned in Sonipat where he will serve as the chief guest, a senior cabinet minister confirmed on Saturday.
The announcement comes amid heightened preparations, including a special cabinet meeting convened by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on October 9 at Haryana Bhavan in Delhi. This will be followed by a meeting of the legislative party to finalize projects for the PM to inaugurate or lay foundation stones for, sources said. Cabinet Minister Krishna Bedi verified the details, emphasizing the significance of the visit as a milestone celebration.
In a bid to align schedules, CM Saini has curtailed his ongoing official trip to Japan. Originally slated to return on October 11, he will now depart Delhi tomorrow (October 5) and be back by October 8, allowing ample time for event logistics.
Speculation is rife that Modi could personally distribute the first installment of the flagship Ladli Laxmi Yojana—providing ₹2,100 monthly to eligible women beneficiaries—during the program, building on discussions from Saini’s recent meeting with the PM on October 1 in New Delhi. During that interaction, the CM extended the formal invitation, which Modi promptly accepted, and they reviewed feedback on the scheme post its app launch.
This will be Modi’s 17th visit to the state since assuming office in August 2014, underscoring his frequent engagements with Haryana. Last year, on the same date, he attended the oath-taking ceremony of the Saini government in the wake of the 2024 assembly elections.
Earlier reports had suggested a potential stop in Ambala Cantt—home turf of senior BJP leader Anil Vij—for the inauguration of a ₹600 crore War Memorial (Veer Shahidi Smarak) and a domestic airport. However, the focus has shifted to Sonipat, though no final call on additional stops has been confirmed.
The visit gains added political resonance ahead of possible Bihar assembly elections later this year. Haryana BJP circles hint at a broader outreach, including a potential November 24 program in Kurukshetra to commemorate Guru Teg Bahadur’s martyrdom and Gita Jayanti. This could extend to Ambala, serving as a subtle message to Sikh voters in Bihar, where the Patna Sahib Gurdwara—one of the five Takhts—holds significant sway.
The groundwork reflects the government’s proactive stance, coming days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s back-to-back events in Rohtak and Kurukshetra on October 3, where CM Saini personally honored him by tying a traditional pagdi.
As Haryana gears up for the high-profile arrival, the event is expected to spotlight the Saini administration’s achievements in welfare, infrastructure, and governance, further solidifying BJP’s foothold in the state ahead of future electoral battles.
