Dhar, Madhya Pradesh: Celebrating his 75th birthday with a clarion call for self-reliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday exhorted the nation to embrace Swadeshi products exclusively, envisioning shops adorned with boards proclaiming “Proudly say—this is Swadeshi.” Addressing a rapturous rally in Bhainsola village of Badnawar tehsil here, Modi blended patriotic fervor with economic pragmatism, urging citizens to leverage GST benefits by prioritizing homegrown goods.
The visit marked a high-energy start to Modi’s birthday engagements in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh. Flanked by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the PM Mitra Park—a key initiative under his “5F Vision” for the textile sector aimed at boosting manufacturing, employment, and exports. Arriving in an open jeep, Modi waved enthusiastically to thousands of supporters who braved the midday sun, their chants of “Modi! Modi!” echoing across the venue.
In a 46-minute address that commenced at 12:32 PM and wrapped up at 1:18 PM, Modi painted a vivid picture of a resurgent India. “This is New India—it doesn’t cower before nuclear threats. We strike at home,” he declared, referencing the daring Operation Sindhu, where Indian forces reportedly humbled Pakistan. Turning to economic nationalism, he stressed: “Whatever you purchase must be made in our land, infused with the sweat of our own people. And whatever you sell, let it too be born here.” He led the crowd in a rousing chorus: “Proudly say, this is Swadeshi!” Modi also highlighted fiscal incentives, noting that opting for Indian products allows consumers to “reap the rewards of GST cuts.”
Dhar, which Modi described as “the soil of valor,” resonated with his invocation of freedom fighters’ sacrifices. “Nothing surpasses the honor, pride, and glory of Mother India. Let every moment of ours be dedicated to the nation,” he said, invoking the unyielding oath taken by independence heroes to lay down their lives for the motherland.
The day was packed with symbolic gestures underscoring Modi’s focus on grassroots welfare. At a health center exhibition, he engaged warmly with frontline workers, discussing healthcare advancements alongside Yadav. On stage, the duo shared a brief huddle over a key issue, drawing applause. Modi was accorded a traditional Malwa-Nimar turban welcome, a nod to the region’s cultural tapestry.
In poignant moments, he honored tribal woman Lakshmi Dodiya under the “One Garden in Mother’s Name” campaign, planting seeds of empowerment. He also handed over a generic card for sickle cell anemia management to local resident Aaradhana Kalmi, spotlighting his government’s push against genetic disorders in vulnerable communities. With a single click, Modi disbursed funds for the National Nutrition Fortnight, reinforcing nutrition as a national priority.
The event, attended by a sea of supporters waving tricolors, underscored Modi’s connect with Madhya Pradesh’s heartland ahead of upcoming elections. Security was tight, with locals recounting the visit as a “blessing” on his milestone birthday.
As the sun dipped, Modi’s message lingered: a call to weave self-reliance into daily life, one Swadeshi purchase at a time.
