Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala storms out mid-speech after lights go off at Sirsa KVK event; Gopal Kanda plays truant, VIP chairs empty as PM Modi’s live address plan falls flat due to power snag

A district-level programme at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Sirsa turned embarrassing on Wednesday when a sudden power outage interrupted the event, prompting Rajya Sabha MP and former Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala to abandon his speech and leave the venue in anger.

Barala, who was the chief guest and addressing the gathering from the stage, stopped mid-sentence the moment lights and the public address system went off. Eyewitnesses said the MP expressed strong displeasure over the poor arrangements, questioning the organisers about how such a high-profile event could be held without basic facilities like uninterrupted power supply. Visibly upset, he walked off the stage and left the venue without completing his address.

The programme was also supposed to feature a live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to farmers. However, due to the power cut, the giant LED screen installed for the PM’s broadcast plunged into darkness, leaving hundreds of attending farmers disappointed.

Adding to the embarrassment, former minister and Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) chief Gopal Kanda, who was specially invited to the event, remained absent throughout. His designated VIP chair on the stage stayed conspicuously empty, triggering speculation and whispers among attendees and local leaders.

Sources said the power failure lasted several minutes, and although a generator backup was eventually started, the damage to the event’s dignity had already been done. Local administration officials were seen scrambling to manage the situation, but the abrupt exit of the Rajya Sabha MP overshadowed the entire programme.

Political circles in Sirsa are now abuzz with discussions over the incident, with many viewing it as a reflection of poor coordination between the district administration and event organisers despite the presence of top political figures.

More details are awaited as local BJP leaders remained tight-lipped when approached for comments.
