When Iron Man Slips: Anil Vij Fractures Both Legs, Sings Through the Pain

From stormy controversies to soulful songs, Haryana’s outspoken minister remains defiant even after a washroom fall sidelines him for a month.

Haryana’s firebrand minister Anil Vij is known for taking political blows head-on. But this time, it was a sudden slip in his washroom that brought him down — fracturing the fibula in both legs and forcing doctors to advise at least a month of rest.

The 72-year-old Energy, Transport and Labour Minister reportedly fell late Sunday night at his residence. Medical examination confirmed fractures in both legs. Yet, true to form, Vij was soon seen humming the old classic “Chal Ri Sajni Ab Kya Soche”, turning personal pain into public theatre. For a man who thrives on visibility, even recovery became a moment of expression.

The Reluctant Patient, The Relentless Politician

Vij has built his career on being combative, accessible and unapologetically blunt. A senior BJP leader from Ambala Cantt, he has long cultivated the image of an incorruptible, no-nonsense administrator — earning both admiration and criticism in equal measure.

Often described as Haryana’s “Iron Man,” Vij has courted controversy repeatedly. His outspoken remarks on bureaucrats, public figures and even party colleagues have triggered headlines. From ordering inquiries into officials to publicly sparring with state functionaries, he rarely shies away from confrontation. Critics call him impulsive; supporters call him fearless.

A Minister Who Sings

Beyond the political persona lies a less-guarded side — Vij’s fondness for old Hindi film songs. He frequently shares videos of himself singing golden-era melodies, sometimes in the midst of political turbulence. Music, for him, appears less a hobby and more a release valve.

This is not the first time Vij has used song to frame his narrative. Whether during cabinet reshuffles, political isolation, or personal setbacks, he has turned to melody as commentary. His recent rendition following the accident fits a familiar pattern — resilience wrapped in nostalgia.

Politics on Pause? Not Quite

Though doctors have advised rest, few expect Vij to retreat quietly. Even during illness or political marginalisation, he has remained vocal on governance and policy. Insiders suggest he will continue monitoring departmental work remotely while recovering.

For now, however, the image is striking: a seasoned politician with both legs fractured, confined physically but not symbolically. In Haryana’s rough-and-tumble politics, Anil Vij has weathered storms far fiercer than a fall.

And if his choice of song is any indication, he intends to sing his way through this one too.
