At Least Two Killed, Including a Child, as Smoke Billows From Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers Building

KYIV, Ukraine – A devastating Russian drone and missile assault struck Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, on Sunday, leaving at least two people dead, including a one-year-old child, and 11 others injured. Thick smoke was seen rising from the Cabinet of Ministers building, raising concerns about a potential escalation in Russia’s ongoing air campaign against Ukraine.

The attack, which marked the second major Russian bombardment of Kyiv in two weeks, caused significant damage in the city center. Rescuers worked tirelessly to recover victims, with the body of the young child found amid the rubble, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s city administration. While it remains unclear whether the government building was directly hit, the assault has heightened fears of intensified Russian aggression targeting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.

This latest strike comes as diplomatic efforts to broker peace talks appear increasingly unlikely, with Russia continuing its military operations. Historically, Russian forces have avoided targeting government buildings in Kyiv’s central district, making this incident a possible shift in strategy. Authorities are still assessing the full extent of the damage, and the situation remains fluid as Ukraine braces for potential further attacks.
