Gurugram: A new dawn broke over the Millennium City on Sunday as the #IOwnGurugram initiative launched with a spirited effort to tackle its urban woes. Led by philanthropist and social activist Dr. Sarvesh Tiwari, the movement saw over 100 employees from PRP Group step up to address civic challenges around their MG Road office. The day’s efforts included filling 4–5 dangerous potholes, cleaning pavements near Guru Dronacharya Metro station, and collecting nearly one ton of garbage, marking a bold start to a citizen-led push for a cleaner, safer Gurugram.

The initiative, born out of Tiwari’s vision, calls on residents, businesses, and communities to take ownership of the city’s well-being, addressing long-standing issues like potholes, litter, and safety hazards. Local resident Harish Kumar from Sikanderpur, who works at China Club Restaurant, welcomed the move, saying, “I’m thrilled to see these potholes fixed. They were life-threatening—I’ve seen 6–7 accidents here in six months.” Passersby joined the cleanup, adding to the momentum and reflecting the campaign’s call to action over complaint.

Dr. Tiwari, also known for leading the Nirbhaya Movement and heading the Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust, emphasized the personal stake in Gurugram’s future. “This city is our home, and it’s time we solve its challenges together,” he said, highlighting PRP’s past efforts—feeding 500 migrant laborers during COVID-19, aiding stranded Indians in Japan, and adopting 135 orphaned children for education. The launch aligns with the city’s need to overcome infrastructure gaps despite its global reputation, a sentiment echoed by Australian expat Charles Thomson. “Initiatives like this foster pride and collaboration, ensuring Gurugram remains world-class,” he noted.

Citizens are encouraged to report issues or join the drive by contacting 8356044256. With this first step, #IOwnGurugram sets the stage for a broader partnership with authorities, aiming to transform Gurugram into a model urban center.
