Janata Dal (United) supremo Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a historic 10th term on Thursday in a glittering ceremony at Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan, marking yet another chapter in the veteran leader’s enduring political journey.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Nitish Kumar at around 11:30 AM, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and several other senior central leaders.
Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, both from the BJP, took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers, retaining their positions from the previous government. Sources indicate that around 18-20 ministers from the NDA allies — including JD(U), BJP, LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM and Rashtriya Lok Morcha — were also inducted into the cabinet during the event.
The grand oath-taking comes days after the NDA’s landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, where the alliance secured 202 out of 243 seats. BJP emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, closely followed by JD(U) with 85.
Chief Ministers and senior leaders from over 11 NDA-ruled states, including Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and others, attended the function, turning it into a massive show of strength for the National Democratic Alliance.
Elaborate security arrangements were in place, with SPG taking charge owing to the Prime Minister’s presence. The venue was decked up with flowers, rangolis and massive cut-outs of PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar.
Speaking briefly after the ceremony, Nitish Kumar reiterated his commitment to Bihar’s development, saying the new government would work with renewed vigour under PM Modi’s leadership to make the state a model of progress.
The event underscores Nitish Kumar’s remarkable political longevity, having first become Chief Minister in 2000 and navigating multiple alliances while remaining a pivotal figure in Bihar politics for over two decades.
