CM highlights inter-state solidarity while criticizing AAP government’s governance in Punjab at Maghi Mela

SRI MUKTSAR SAHIB, January 14 — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini emphasized the deep-rooted cultural and familial bonds between Punjab and Haryana while addressing a large gathering at the Maghi Mela in Sri Muktsar Sahib on Wednesday. The Chief Minister underscored that the two states share more than geographical proximity, being connected through blood relations, brotherhood, and shared cultural values.

Speaking at the historic venue, CM Saini highlighted Haryana’s support to Punjab during recent natural calamities, stating that the state stood with its neighbor “like an elder brother” during times of distress. He paid tribute to the sacred soil of Sri Muktsar Sahib, describing it as a land immortalized by the sacrifice of the Chali Mukte who laid down their lives for Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Sharp Criticism of AAP Government

The Haryana Chief Minister launched a pointed critique of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, alleging that the state’s leadership was absent when people needed it most during the recent crisis. He claimed that while Haryana extended full support during the natural disaster, Punjab’s Chief Minister was nowhere to be seen, and the government failed to fulfill its promises to the public.

CM Saini contrasted Haryana’s governance record with Punjab’s, stating that his government has already fulfilled 54 out of 217 promises made in its Sankalp Patra within one year, with work on the remaining commitments progressing rapidly. He asserted that Punjab’s promises have largely remained on paper.

Haryana’s Agricultural Achievements

Highlighting his state’s farmer-friendly policies, the Chief Minister announced that Haryana has become the first state in India to procure all 24 crops at Minimum Support Price. He emphasized that farmers receive payment within 48 hours, with interest paid for any delays, ensuring transparency and trust in the system.

The CM also addressed the stubble burning issue, stating that while the AAP blamed farmers during its tenure in Delhi, it failed to take effective measures in Punjab despite being in power for four years. In contrast, he said Haryana provides subsidies on agricultural machinery and an incentive of Rs. 1,200 per acre for stubble management.

MGNREGA Irregularities and Worker Rights

CM Saini raised concerns about alleged MGNREGA irregularities in Punjab, referencing complaints made to Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan about workers not receiving their rightful benefits. He claimed that embezzlement had occurred in several Gram Panchayats but no action was taken by the Punjab government.

The Chief Minister also criticized Punjab’s opposition to the VB G-RAM-G Act, which was introduced to ensure transparency and secure workers’ rights. He stated that Punjab’s special Assembly session resolution opposing the Act contained neither facts, data, nor constructive suggestions.

Financial Support to Farmers

Detailing Haryana’s commitment to farmers, CM Saini disclosed that the state has provided nearly Rs. 15,500 crore in financial assistance over the past 11 years. Recently, Rs. 5 crore was disbursed as compensation for damages to houses and livestock caused by heavy rainfall, and Rs. 116 crore has been credited to farmers’ accounts for crop damage.

The Chief Minister also mentioned welfare schemes including LPG cylinders at Rs. 500 for needy families, the Lado Lakshmi Scheme providing Rs. 2,100 per month to women and daughters, and the expanded Chirayu Scheme under Ayushman Bharat for healthcare access.

The event was attended by Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu, former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar, and several other prominent political figures. CM Saini extended warm greetings to the people on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
