Revenue officers end five-day protest following talks with Finance Commissioner Revenue; over 10,000 pending registrations to be cleared

Property registration services across Haryana will resume on Wednesday as tehsildars and naib tehsildars called off their five-day strike following a productive meeting with Finance Commissioner Revenue Sumita Mishra in Chandigarh on Tuesday.

The decision to return to work was announced after extensive discussions between the Haryana Revenue Officers Association and senior state officials at the Chandigarh headquarters. The breakthrough came after assurances were provided regarding the concerns raised by the striking revenue officers.

The strike, which began last Thursday, had brought property registration work to a complete standstill across the state, leaving more than 10,000 registrations pending. Citizens faced severe hardships as essential revenue services including property registrations, domicile certificates, marriage registrations, jamabandi, and intakal were suspended.

Districts like Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, and Rewari were particularly affected, with thousands of transactions stuck in limbo. The revenue collection also took a massive hit, with the state recording just a single registry completion on one of the strike days.

The revenue officers had launched the protest against what they termed as arbitrary suspensions and arrests of their colleagues. The issues included the suspension of Wazirabad and Narayangarh Naib Tehsildars and the arrest of Tehsildar Vikram Singla in connection with alleged irregularities in land registration.

With work resuming from February 11, the backlog of pending registrations is expected to be cleared in the coming days, bringing relief to thousands of citizens who had been waiting to complete their property transactions.

The state government’s intervention and willingness to address the grievances of revenue officers proved crucial in ending the impasse and restoring normal administrative functioning.
